RICHARD L. DAVIES AUG 16, 1923 - NOV 5, 2010 Richard L. Dick'' Davies, 87, passed away Friday afternoon at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. Dick was born in San Francisco to Llewellyn and Florence Davies. He moved to Modesto from southern California in 2004 with his wife Phyllis. Dick is survived by his wife Phyllis, four children from a previous marriage to Jewel; sons, Richard Jr., Robert and Ronald of Bass Lake, a daughter, Linda Sirr of Yucca Valley, and two grandchildren, Jennifer Davies and Sean Sirr and three great-grandchildren. Six step-children, Kristyn Kilhoffer of Oklahoma, Joseph and Phillip Goularte of Washington State, Jane Haerle of Oregon, Leo Tyrrell of Waterford, and Bridget Tyrrell of Sacramento, and nine grandchildren: Justin, Valentina, George, Isabel, Christian, Patric, John, Nathan and Ethan. He is also survived by his sister, Beverly Pierson-who's husband Oral passed away 10 days prior to Dick's death. He was also preceded in death by his brother Thomas Davies. Dick graduated from Burlington High School during WWII. His father died in Japan on the Bataan Death March. As the oldest son, Dick was not required to serve in the military. He worked in the shipyards and had many otherjobs. He then went on to operate his own auto repair garage, until an auto he was working under fell off the jack,crushing and burning him. Hecontributes his healing to a miracle. He then began his insurance and investment career and retired from Lehman Brothers in 1991. He continued his own insurance agency thereafter. Dick was a lifetime member of NRA. We will truly miss his quick wit, sense of humor and zest for life. Friends are invited to the visitation and Rosary on Thursday, November 11 from 4-7 pm at Franklin & Downs Funeral Home on McHenry.
