Mabel H. Noren Kline
Oct. 6, 1920 ~ Feb. 20, 2014
Our small family just got smaller with the loss of our dear Mother and "G-ma", age 93. Mabel was born in Elk River, MN to John and Carrie Noren. She was the youngest of nine children, all pre-deceased. She came to Ceres, California in 1929 at the age of 9. She graduated from Ceres High School and enjoyed attending class reunions into her 90s.
She married Jerry Kline in 1941 and had two children: Sandy Holt (Bill) and George Kline. They owned Jerry's Grocery Store in Ceres on Hwy. 99 until the state bought the land for the freeway in 1954. Then they moved to Modesto. Later, she worked at Quigley's and Tillman's as a great cook and friendly waitress.
Mabel was a fiercely independent, hard-working, non-complaining woman. She was sharp as a tack and known for quick, quirky wit. She was an animal lover and dedicated recycler.
We want to express our sincere appreciation for the excellent care she received during her last 13 days at Alexander Cohen Hospice House. Also, thanks to helpful caring neighbors Chris, "Neighbor Bill" and Alice.
Besides her children Sandy and George; she is survived by two grandchildren Gary Holt and Lori Holt both of Modesto and several nieces and nephews.
No services will be held at her request. She requested any donations be made to Community Hospice 4368 Spyres Way Modesto, CA 95356 or
