Clarence L. Herd
February 2, 1933 - April 10, 2014
Clarence "Bunkey" Lenard Herd passed away surrounded by family on April 10th. Bunkey was born on February 2, 1933, to Joseph and Vancy Herd in McAlester, Oklahoma. The family made the journey west, eventually settling in Modesto in 1950. It was there he met his wife of 43 years, Betty Holt. In 1965, they settled in Turlock where they raised their family. He spent many summers walking the trails of Pinecrest Lake, Modesto Reservoir, and Dardenells, enjoying the outdoors, working in his garden, and sneaking a sip of Pepsi to his Grandkids.
Bunkey worked as a tractor mechanic the majority of his life, retiring from Garton Tractor at the young age of 74. During retirement he enjoyed camping, traveling, tinkering with his CB radios, and spoiling his grandkids.
He is survived by his son, David (Laura) Herd, daughter, Robin (Mark) Jones, grandchildren, Brian, Amy, and Kyle Herd, Greg (Jen), Jake, and Randy Jones, great grandchildren, Gavin and Gregory Jones, and brother Bob Herd of Hilmar. He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty, parents, Joseph and Vancy Herd, brothers, Johnny, Sol, Silby "Dutch," Orby, Clyde, Elmer, and Thomas Herd, and sister, Goldie Spencer.
The family would like to thank the whole crew at Garton Tractor for always treating him as family as well as the staff at Brandel Manor for their excellent care, love, and support.
