Barbara Emily Dameron
May 18, 1926 - June 23, 2014
Barbara Dameron passed away peacefully June 23, 2014 at the age of 88.  She was born and raised in Hughson, a first generation American, with a father from England and a mother from Scotland.  After she graduated from Hughson High School in 1944, she attended Modesto Junior College and was catcher for the women's softball team.  She joined the Cadet Nursing Corps, and trained in Santa Clara to be a nurse.  The war ended before her training was completed and she returned to Hughson to marry her childhood sweetheart, Jack Dameron.  They were married 61 years.  They had 4 children and farmed together.  In addition, she worked 20 years in the Hughson School District.   Beginning as a teacher's aide in kindergarten, she held a variety of positions including secretary to the superintendent and comptroller for the district.  She loved the children more than anything. To this day many children talk about how Mrs. Dameron helped them succeed.  She was a 4-H leader and an active volunteer in the many clubs and activities in which her children participated.  She was also very involved in activities of the Young Farmer and Young Homemaker organizations.
Though she served the Hughson community in many ways, the center of her life was her family.  She took great pleasure in spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  Jack and Barbara together formed a union welcoming everyone from both families to create one very large and close family unit.
Barbara is survived by her son Sam (Gail) Dameron, and daughters:  Anita Damiano, Vivian Hussey, and Donna (Chris) Taylor; 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.  Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Jack Dameron, sisters Elsie Smallwood and Florence Van Voris, granddaughter Taylor Hatch and son by marriage, John Damiano.
Her positive spirit touched many.   Memorial services will be held at Samaritan Village at 7700 Fox Road, Hughson on Sunday, June 29th at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hughson Hospice at 2201 Euclid Ave.  Hughson, CA 95326, or to the in Barbara Dameron's name.
