Nicholas A. "Nick" Verratti of Turlock, CA, passed away peacefully at Brandel Manor on June 28, 2014 following a long illness.
Nick was born on January 23, 1934 in Chester, PA, the youngest child of Mose and Veneranda Verratti. Following graduation from Chester High School in 1952, he joined the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean Conflict. It was while in the Air Force that he was trained as a machinist. While stationed at Castle Air Force Base near Merced, CA. he met and married the love of his life, Barbara J. McKay. They were married for 58 years.
Nick and Barbara resided in Santa Clara, CA during the thirty years that he was employed at Lockheed-Martin in Sunnyvale. After retiring to Turlock in 1991, Nick worked for several years at Orchard Supply Hardware.
As a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Nick served as an usher at the 7 AM Mass. Nick was an avid sports fan who also enjoyed gardening and jigsaw puzzles. Above all, he cherished spending time with friends and family who will long-remember his generosity and quick wit. Nick's family is grateful for the loving care he received during the last few months of his illness through Provident Care, Emanuel Medical Center, and in particular, the staff at Cypress Assisted Living.
In addition to his parents, Nick was predeceased by one brother, Nazarene Verratti, and three sisters, Rose Italiano, Philomena Malinowski, and Anne Cornacchia. Along with his wife, Barbara, he is survived by one sister, Mary DiCecco, of Norristown, PA, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Shirley and Pete Kennedy of Bakersfield, CA, and many nieces and nephews.
Services for Nick will be held on Friday, July 11, 2014. Rosary recitation is scheduled for 8:15-8:45 AM at Allen Mortuary, immediately followed by visitation until 9:45. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Committal Service with military honors will take place at 12:30 PM at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery.
