Calvin, age 86 years, passed away peacefully in the arms of his loving wife on Oct. 4, 2012.
Calvin, the youngest of 12 children, was born in Michigan in 1925. His parents, Gust and Saana Liisa, immigrated from Finland before Calvin was born.
Calvin proudly served his country in the Army during WWII. At the age of 21, Calvin fell in love and married the beautiful love of his life, Pauline Caton. They lived in Berkeley and San Francisco prior to settling in Hayward where they had 3 daughters, Colleen, Charlene, and Catie. Calvin and Pauline would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary next month.
Calvin loved his family and was also especially proud of his business, Hayward Sign Company, which he owned and operated for 45 years. Calvin and Pauline eventually followed their children and grandchildren to Modesto and have been members of the Church of Christ for 21 years.
Along with his loving wife and daughters, Calvin leaves behind his 5 grandchildren (Megan, Trevor, Becky, Trey and Emma) and his 2 great-grandchildren (Jace and Sam).
There will be a private family graveside service next week. The public memorial service will be held at the Whitman Church of Christ at 416 W. Whitmore Ave. in Modesto on Sat. Oct. 20th at 11:00 a.m.
