John Silveira Leonardo passed away on November 30, 2012 following an extended illness, he was 42 years old. John was born on April 18, 1970 in Modesto to Angelo and Alice Leonardo and was a lifelong resident of Modesto.
John attended Hart Ransom Elementary then went on to graduate from Hilmar High School where he was the Senior Class President. After High School, John continued his education at the University of the Pacific where he earned his Master's degree in biology and chemistry. John went to work for Los Banos High School where he taught biology and chemistry for 10 years and then taught for Modesto High School for another 7 years where he was voted and awarded Most Inspirational Teacher of 2012.
John enjoyed listening to music, his favorite musician was Andrea Bocelli. John also loved the Opera and reading during his spare time. John loved traveling to the ocean and because of his love for the ocean, John has chosen the coasts of Pacific Grove as his final resting place.
John leaves behind his mother, Alice Coito Leonardo. John is preceded in death by his father, Angelo Leonardo, his maternal grandparents: Joe Correria Coito and Mary Borges Coito, and his paternal grandparents: Gregorio and Rosalia Leonardo.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Franklin & Downs Funeral Home. A memorial mass is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 7, at 3:30 p.m. at St. Stanislaus Catholic church, 709 J street in Modesto. In lieu of flowers family has requested that donations be made to the John S Leonardo Scholarship Fund, Modesto High School: 18 H Street, Modesto, CA.
