Joe R. Garcia, 85 years, born in El Paso, Texas passed at his home in Modesto to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Joe is survived by his wife Teresa, his sons; JoJo (Susie), Rick, Tony (Claudia), David (Susan), and grandchildren; Jason, Janine, Dan, Anthony David, Anthony Thomas, Philip, Lars, Erika, Andrew, Kaylin and Juliette as well as 7 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son, Arturo. Joe, "Pepe" to many, will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Joe was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in World War II. He was deeply involved with Our Lady of Fatima, and enjoyed serving on Legion of Mary, Knights of Columbus, and Men of the Sacred Heart. Joe kept his loved ones close in his daily prayers for thanksgiving and good health.
He is remembered by many as founder and owner of Familia Garcia Restaurant in Modesto where he shared lots of food, laughter, and good times with patrons, friends and family for 25 years. Joe loved to take pictures, preserving his memories to share later with others.
A rosary is being held at Salas Brothers Funeral Home on Thursday, February 21, 2013, at 6:00 pm. Mass will be held on Friday, February 22, 2013, at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church located at 505 W. Granger Ave., Modesto. At the request of Joe, his burial will be a private time for immediate family.
His family would like to express sincere thanks to all friends and extended family who have been supportive during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Our Lady of Fatima Church.
