Thomas D. "Bud" Harrell
August 12, 1928 - May 15, 2013
Thomas David "Bud", the 8th child of John & Jessie Harrell was born and raised in Madera, CA where he graduated from Madera High in 1946. In 1947 he married his high school sweetheart Dolores Ruiz.
Bud was a lineman then retired as an Engineer after 35 years with AT&T (PacBell). He served as an officer in the National Guard during the Korean Conflict; was an active member of Dads Club & Telephone Pioneers. He coached numerous championship baseball teams through his involvement with Modesto Baseball for Boys. He co-owned DH Cycles,Inc.
Gardening and teaching his grandchildren the love of gardening gave Bud great joy. Camping, fishing, and family meals were a huge part of his life.
He leaves his wife of 65+ years and three children: Sheila Ruiz Harrell (Al Lopez) of Modesto; Michael E Harrell (Mary) of Lakeville, MN; and David V Harrell (Barbara) of Modesto; 7 grandchildren, Virginia, Richard (Ouafa), Michelle (Arjan), Bruce (Tam), Courtney, Thomas and Vincent, and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Ruth Gagnon and Zettie Gabrielson (Leonard), all of Madera; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 24th at 10:00am at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 505 W. Granger, Modesto. Reception to follow. Remembrances may be made to St Vincent de Paul.
