Lloyd Edwin Faukner
June 23, 1921 - Nov 7, 2013
Lloyd Edwin Faukner was born in Spokane, Washington on June 23, 1921. His family moved to Sacramento in 1924. He graduated from McClatchey High School in 1939 and then Sacramento Junior College in 1941. Lloyd was married to Charlotte K. (Evans) on November 15, 1942 in Sacramento. In January of 1943 he joined the U.S. Army and served from January 1943 to December 1945. He served in Tunisia, Corsica and Italy as a Sergeant. Upon returning from the War he graduated from the College of the Pacific with a Bachelor's degree in Speech Therapy in 1948. He then returned to Sacramento where he taught in the Sacramento City School District from 1948 to 1968. During those years he did speech therapy, counseling, and classroom teaching.
After receiving his Master's Degree from the University of the Pacific in 1968 he moved with his family to Modesto where he began working at Modesto Junior College teaching public speaking and interpersonal communication. In 1976 he became the first dean of the Arts, Humanities, Speech, Theatre, Music, Radio and TV department at MJC. During his time at MJC he was lucky to be able to continue and strengthen his friendships with his colleagues Edward Mc Clarty, William Hill, and Jim Ludlow. All four had been instructed by Dr McCall at COP and had a great admiration for their former teacher. He retired from MJC in 1980.
After retiring, relatives and friends developed a need to host a garage sale. Lloyd and Charlotte were asked to help. This became a fascinating pursuit that lasted until 2009. Special new friends were found with their many repeat customers.
He loved spending his summers at South Lake Tahoe entertaining his family and friends. Some of his favorite hobbies were fishing, backpacking, and exploring off-road trails in Nevada in his Jeep. He especially loved tending his gardens and looking after his citrus trees.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his father Charles Faukner, mother Frances Faukner, brothers Raymond and Frank Faukner, and sister Ella Mae Clark. He is survived by his wife of 70 years Charlotte Faukner, daughter Susan Silva, son Steven Faukner, and son Andrew (Tam) Faukner. His grandchildren are Joshlynn (Martin) Norquist, Jimmy Faukner, and Benjamin Faukner. Also, his great grandchildren are Göran & Alden Norquist, Helen & Brock Faukner. He is also survived by nephews Gilbert and Larry Faukner of Sacramento, Robert Faulkner of Lake Tahoe, John Clark of Indio, Brad and Bruce Garrett and niece Joy of Oregon.
