Anna Marie Fikse
September 18, 1925-November 27, 2013
The youngest of eight children, Anna Marie was born to Albert and Hattie Van Raalte on September 18, 1925.  She grew up on the family farm in Larchwood, Iowa, and attended country school. She went to high school in Lester.  While visiting in California as a teenager, she met Everett Fikse at a youth group event at Calvary Reformed Church in Ripon.  She stayed in contact with Everett while she attended college at Northwestern Academy in Orange City, Iowa.  After she was graduated with a teaching degree, Anna Marie taught school in Little Rock, Iowa for one year, then decided to move to California to teach first through fourth grades at San Joaquin School in Ripon. She and Everett renewed their romance, and after his discharge from the U.S. Navy following WWII, they married on August 6, 1946.  They moved into a home with an acre on Wilma Avenue and raised chickens.  When it became available at the end of the street, the couple purchased a 22-acre farm and put in an almond orchard. There, Anna Marie wore many hats.  She was a tireless homemaker, a loving mother to four children, a hard-working farmer's wife, a sought-after substitute teacher, an avid letter writer, and an involved servant of Christ at Calvary Reformed Church in Ripon and at "Love Thy Neighbor" in Manteca. As the years passed, Anna Marie and Everett lovingly welcomed spouses for each of their children into their family and built a new home on Wilma Avenue. They also enjoyed getting to know eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; traveling to each state in the union as well as numerous foreign countries;  wintering in the desert in their motorhome, visiting all of the Reformed Church mission sites, doing disaster relief in many needy areas, and eventually moving into a Bethany Home Sunset apartment on Robert Ave. On Sunday, November 23, Anna Marie suffered a massive stroke and was born into eternity on Wednesday, November 27, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Everett E. Fikse of Ripon, and her children Leon (Harriet) of Redlands, California; Lyle (Linda) of Kingsley, Iowa; Margene Halley (Bill) of North Aurora, Illinois; and Mervyn (Peggy) of Modesto. Her grandchildren include Ryan Fikse of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; Wade Fikse of Charlotte, North Carolina, Brett Fikse (Julie) of Stockton; Janelle Brouwer (Kyle) of Cascade, Iowa; Chad Fikse (Lynnette) of Sully, Iowa; Keaton Halley of Powder Springs, Georgia;  Landon Halley (Erin) of North Aurora, Illinois; Tyson Halley (Johanna) of Winfield, Illinois; Preston Halley (Juliana) of Aurora, Illinois; Marcia Fikse of Modesto; and Rochel Hesse (Ryan) of Modesto. She is also survived by great grandchildren Cade and Morgan Brouwer; Evan, Kendra, and Laura Fikse;  Greyson Halley and Jude Halley; six sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Deegan Ripon Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, December 3 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Ripon Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 4 followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Reformed Church. Memorial gifts can be made to Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa.
