Garth Parker Oliver
July 1933 ~ August 2014
Garth was born in Salinas, CA and passed away at the age of 81 this week in Modesto, CA.  He was a veteran of the Korean War where he served as an E-4 Quarter Master 3rd Class on the USS Chara.  Garth was responsible for piloting an ammunition ship that would resupply other ships with ammunition.  After his time in the service from 1950-1954; Garth married Shirley Brandon and they shared 59 years of marriage.  He worked as a truck driver for Kings County Truck Lines for 30 years.  His hobbies included collecting model cars and trucks, golfing, target shooting and he enjoyed photography.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Oliver; children Toni (Jim) Lamb, Doug (Diane) Oliver and Scott A. (Kathy) Oliver; sister Jacqueline B. "Jacque" Harmon; four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.  Garth is preceded in death by his parents Joseph "Jack" Oliver and Gertrude "Gertie" Oliver; son Bret R. Oliver; granddaughter Michelle N. Oliver and brother Ralph A. Oliver.
Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to The Wounded Warriors Project P.O. Box 758517 Topeka, Kansas 66675. 
Viewing will be held at Allen Mortuary on Sunday, August 24, 2014 from 3:00-7:00p.m.  Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will be at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hilmar on Monday, August 25, 2014 at 9:00a.m. with interment to follow at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery.  Please share your memories at
