MARGARET GILBERT Obituary

Margaret Ellen "Marge" Wisdom Gilbert, age 76, passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center, Las Vegas, Nev. following a cerebral vascular accident (stroke).

Marge, as she was known to most, was born in Los Angeles, Calif. on December 7, 1936, Pearl Harbor Day, as she was fond of reminding friends and family. She resided in Glendale, Calif. until her move to the Tri-state communities in the early 1990s. For the past seven years, she resided at Desert Springs Fairways in Laughlin, Nev.

Although her career was spent in the banking and legal industries, Marge was a dedicated textile artist and was devoted to knitting, quilting, doll-making, embroidery, and sewing. She rarely saw a piece of fabric or a skein of yarn she didn't love. She was most happy working with "rescued" vintage quilt blocks, incorporating them with reproduction or vintage fabrics from her vast collection. She was a longtime member of the Glendale Quilt Guild while living in California, a member of Bullhead City's Colorado River Quilters and Fort Mohave's Stitch 'n' Rippits quilt guilds. She also made quilts for Quilted Prayers, a quilt ministry dedicated to making comfort quilts for those in need. For a brief time, she owned and operated The Bag Lady, a retail fabric shop on Hancock Road in Bullhead City.

Marge possessed a razor-sharp, cynical and satirical sense of humor. She often asked new acquaintances, "Did you know I was Margaret Meade?", and then waited to see if they would bite. She was a great storyteller, mostly about herself, and loved dogs, her most recent being a shelter rescue terrier-mix aptly named Digger.

Marge was preceded in death by her parents, William Bryan Wisdom and Geraldine Gumpert-Tift; and sister Sharon Jungwirth.

She is survived by her husband, John of Bullhead City; two sons, Daniel (Kathy) Meade of Deale, Md., and William (Nicole) Meade of Bakersfield, Calif.; daughter, Holly Meade Lewis of Longview, Wash. (who had recently moved to Laughlin, Nev.); sister, Patricia (Stanley) Stuart of West Covina, Calif.; three grandchildren, Patrick (Afton) Meade, Shari (Rush) Hoag, and John Meade; and two great-grandchildren, Bryce and Payton.

A celebration of life will be held at 4:00 p.m on Saturday, January 12, 2013 in the Fellowship Hall at City Bible Church, 922 Marina, Bullhead City, Ariz.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested a potluck dish be brought on Saturday, or that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative (AAQI), (a nonprofit corporation dedicated to raising awareness and funding research through art) at: http://www.alzquilts.org/donation.html.

Dear John, Daniel William Holly and Patricia. I was sorry to hear of the passing of Marge. She led a long and productive life and how difficult it is when one who touched so many lives is no longer there. I am sure that at the celebration of life there will be many who think about the past and the friendship they enjoyed with her. I would like to add the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, as recorded to in the Gospel of John, chapter 5 verse 28. "Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.." We know that will be when Jesus returns to put an end to the wars, violence and suffering - what a wonderful time that will be when the earth is once more the paradise that God intended. These words focus our thoughts on the future and the hope we have.
