James N. "Jim" Smith, age 74, a 13-year resident of Fort Mojave, Ariz., died after a sudden illness on Monday, October 22, 2012, in Las Vegas, Nev.
Jim served his country in the U.S. Navy
Jim lived in Ventura, Calif., for 50 years, serving the County of Ventura as a fireman
, captain, battalion chief, fire marshal and asst. fire chief, for 35 years.
During that time, Jim married Pam, and they lived most of their time in Newbury Park, where they raised their two sons. The fire service was Jim's life, and both his sons followed in his footsteps. He was proudest of his sons and enjoyed hearing their fire adventures.
Jim was surrounded in life by his many friends and family some from his early days in Ventura, and new ones in the Mohave area.
He was preceded in death by his father, Cornelius; mother, Blanche; and sister, Joyce.
Jim is survived by his wife of 48 years, Pam; two sons, Andy (Anita) and Kevin (Sandy); four grandchildren who were the delight of his life, Kayla and Brent Smith of Newbury Park, Calif., and Keagan and Tate Smith of Bullhead City, Ariz.; and also many family members too numerous to mention.
A rosary service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 26, 2012, and a Mass will immediately follow at 2:30 p.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 218 D Street, Needles, Calif.
The burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday October 27, 2012, at Desert Lawn Cemetery, 9250 S. Ranchero Lane, Mohave Valley.
