Joane DeYoung Peterson, age 84, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 peacefully at home. Joane was born on December 13, 1928 in Redfield/Ashton, SD to Nora and Sebe DeYoung.

In 1942 the family moved to Britton, SD where Joane completed her education and worked at the Courthouse. She married Leonard (Wallace) Peterson on November 4, 1949 where they settled on a farm in Amherst, SD. They had two children, Debora born in 1950 and Gene born in 1954. Shortly after the birth of Gene they moved out to Norwalk, Calif. They resided in Norwalk until 1986 when Leonard retired from A.O. Smith and they moved to Fort Mohave, Ariz.

Joane was preceded in death by her daughter, Debora (David) Masseth of Fort Mohave; granddaughter, Michelle Saewert; sisters, Maxine Shelton of Rapid City, SD and Edith Stiegelmeyer of Britton, SD.

She is survived by her Husband of 63 years, Leonard (Wally) Peterson; son, Gene "Pete"(Marjorie) Peterson of Fort Mohave; brother, Donald DeYoung of Poway, Calif.; four grandchildren, Robert (Holly) Masseth of Pinon Hills, Calif., Marjonna Rawlings of Los Angeles, Kristy Masseth of Minn., and Anthony (Stacy) Masseth of Fort Mohave; eight great-grandchildren, Hector Cynthia Montoya, Ashly Noel, Bailey, Gavin, Kaitlyn, Skylar, Emily, and Lindsay, and one great-great-grandchild, Xavier.

Joane was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with all her family and friends and lit up any room with her kind heart and wonderful smile. She enjoyed her daily battles with the "One-Armed Bandits" in the Pioneer Casino and we never knew how much she spent, but she TOLD us how much she won!! She will be dearly missed by all her friends and family.
