GARY ALLEN WACHTLER

Gary Allen Wachtler, age 67, passed away on Veterans Day, Monday, November 11, 2013, in Kingman, Ariz. Gary was born in Los Angeles, Calif., on July 22, 1946. He lived in the area until retiring in the White Mountains of Arizona in 1996.

At the age of 20, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he earned the rank of Staff Sgt. In 1969 he was head of the communications squadron in Vietnam. After discharge Gary joined the Los Angeles Police Department and served 26 years, from June 1970 until his retirement in 1996.

Never to be inactive Gary, with the help of friends, began the "White Mountain Open Trails Association" (WMOTA); an off road riding club dedicated to responsible riding or as he liked to call it "motorized hiking."

After moving to Bullhead City, Ariz., Gary joined the Sheriff's Department as a proud member of the Search and Rescue team. At that time he also became an ATV Safety Institute Instructor and taught safe off-road riding.

His joy was helping others and he always had a smile to give.

Gary is survived by his wife, Sherry; daughters, Tami and Kristi; grandsons, Luke and Ryan; sister Nancy B. Smith; niece, Annie; and nephews, Dave and Tom.

Church services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at St. Johns Lutheran Church, 1664 Central Ave. Bullhead City, Ariz.

Rest in Peace my beloved husband, protector, and friend.
