Ida Marianne Wootton, age 91, a wonderful mother, friend, and inspiration, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2013. With her walking stick always at her side, "Grandma Moses", as she was known to many in the St. George, Utah area, was an inspiration and a joy to those who knew her.

Born in Papeete, Tahiti on April 7, 1921, Ida's family moved to the U.S. in the late 1920's - settling first in California, and later in Salt Lake City.

As a Special Education teacher and mother to a special needs daughter, Ida dedicated her life to helping, promoting, protecting, and advocating for those with special needs. As a mother of nine children, a breast cancer survivor, a fitness advocate, and an active member in her community, Ida's spirit and life force made a lasting impression on those around her. Snow Canyon and the red hills of the St. George area and Zion brought joy to her every day.

We will desperately miss Mom's easy smile, her laugh, her playful sense of humor, her kindness without judgment, her love of animals, and her love of exploring nature. Mom, and the joy she shared with all of us, will live in our hearts and memories forever.

Ida was preceded in death by her husband, Stanford Wootton, in 1986; and her eldest son, John (Jean) Wootton of Idaho in 2002.

She is survived by four sons, Randy (Carolyn) Wootton of Denver, Colo., Tracey (Cindee) Wootton of Las Vegas, Nev., Jay (Kaylani) Wootton of Lindon, Utah, and Stan Wootton (Paul Canning) of Arcadia, Calif.; four daughters, Susan Williams of St. George, Utah, Lynne (Steve) Romney of Salt Lake City, Utah, Pam Wootton Neumann of Sandy, Utah, and Kim (Kent) Walker of Santa Clara, Utah; sister, Iris Hallaran of Arcadia, Calif.; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
