Melvin Eugene Wood, age 74, a resident of Topock, Ariz., passed away on Monday, January 28, 2013 in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. He was born on December 13, 1938 in Stockton, Calif. to Lee and Angeline Wood.

Mel attended IBEW Trade School while still in High School. He worked as a journeyman electrician in the US Navy aboard aircraft carrier, USS Yorktown from 1956-1959. From then until 2008, Mel worked as a journeyman electrician and was a member of the IBEW Electrical Union 357 out of Las Vegas, Nev.
In 2008 he retired from the Union and obtained his electrical contractor's license and opened Topic Electric with his wife, Karen. He donated his labor to various churches. Mel valued his clients and when his health prevented him from working he had a hard time accepting it.
He will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Beverly Sartin and Pat Bonz; step-sons, Scott and Jayson Gibson.
Mel is survived by his wife of nearly 18 years, Karen Wood; son, Damon and his fiance, Jessyca; daughters, Cindy (Effrain) Herrera, Tonya, Annette and Doreen; 17 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and his two dogs, Jake and Sasie, who were like his kids.
Memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Golden Shores Community Baptist Church with Pastors Jason Smathers and George Lyman officiating.
