Eric G. Carter, 61, of Redmond, WA passed away in a Skilled Nursing Facility in Seattle Tuesday, November 22nd. A resident of the Manhattan South Street Seaport area during the 9/11 disaster, he had been classified as a residential victim by the World Trade Center Health Program and had valiantly battled an aggressive non-Hodgkin's lymphoma during the latter months of his life. The son of Joan Cooley Carter of Carmel, CA and the late Cdr. Earl L. Following graduation, he was awarded a Research Fellowship as a PhD Candidate in Astronomy at the University of Texas, Austin, TX specializing in adaptive optics and image processing. Other research engagements in his educational background include Solar Polarimetry Studies at California's Big Bear Solar Observatory and Solar Active Region Studies and Solar Spectrograph Automation at Mees Solar Observatory, Mt. Haleakala, Maui. A Lifetime member of Caltech's Alumnae Association, its Athenaeum Club, and an avid "Trekkie", Eric never bypassed a movie, documentary, book, article or event about the exploration of outer space.
Carter had almost four decades of scientific and technical systems experience in the development of hardware and software products and founded and managed three technology-based firms. His client list included: Texas Instruments, NY Telephone, AT&T, GE, Hess Oil, Hughes Aircraft, Lucasfilm THX, Merrill Lynch, Alliance Consulting, Microsoft Research (WorldWide Telescope), Microsoft Store, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab.

His cremation services were provided by Washington Cremation Centers in Kent, WA and a Memorial service will follow at a later date. My brother Eric Greggory Carter was a great supporter of mine in my Entertainment, Business, and Scientific education and professional experiences... and socially. He was my baby sitter/minder on set in Hawai'i for Hawai'i 5-O in the 1960's, when I was a baby actor and supported me and obeyed my early movie Direction career, and was of the best under-5's I ever had the pleasure of working with. He was a surrogate father when our Dad walked on, and always wanted me to attend CalTech. I chose Pepperdine, but will always remember the CalTech crew and his fondness for 'glomping' Jell-O. He and Muffin, our dog, were my staunch protectors and defenders before and after the jet-pack era and he KNEW what and when MY StarWars script was written about...his Talent for Space Photography was unsurpassed and I will miss his laugh, as it came so rarely and I had to work super hard to get it. His uncanny ability to read my Poker Face and his intelligence, wit, and caring. So like our Dad...two in a million! May he find his place in the stars and RIP.
