Muller, Mary Pollock - Monterey
Mary Pollock Muller 1921 ~ 2015 Monterey, CA Mary Elizabeth Pollock Muller passed away peacefully on March 4, 2015. Born in 1921 in Dallas, Texas, Mary, mother, Army wife, and cheering supporter of her family and her adopted hometown of Monterey, led a storybook life. Reared in Dallas, her family was focused on the retail goods trade with the W.A. Green Company—a stalwart of the department store establishment at the time—she ventured from high school out of Dallas to attend college in New York at Edgewood Park to pursue a career in fashion design. Meeting and falling in love with Tom Muller, a dashing cadet at West Point, derailed the design vocation but propelled her into a fifty-seven year love affair and marriage that produced four children, 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She moved from the security of Dallas to an adventure of world travel and extraordinary life experiences in post-WW II recovering Germany during the Occupation and late-Marshall-Plan Turkey plus assignments that spanned both coasts and the middle of the United States, all the while supporting and nurturing her brood of growing children. She managed—when Tom, a career Army officer and a member of a multi-generational military family, was assigned overseas, whether in France and Germany during WWII or Korea in the pre-Vietnam era—to keep the home fires burning and the family values secured. Mary was preceded in death by her mother and father, E. Lawrence and Gertrude Pollock, and her husband, (Col.) Thomas Henry Muller. She is survived by her son, Thomas H. Muller Jr. (Clair) of Atlanta, GA, son, Kenneth L. Muller (Karen) of Spokane, WA, daughter, Barbara Lynn Muller Pierleoni (Rick) of Prunedale, CA and son, Bruce P. Muller (Teresa) of Monterey, CA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Catherine Muller, Anne Muller Weaver, Karen Muller Stacy, Joanne Muller Johnson, Glenn Clovis, Michael Clovis, Alicia Clovis Ruckteschler, Brianne Clovis Hidalgo, Simeon Muller, David Muller, Nate Muller and Jonathan Muller; grandchildren by marriage, Kim, Krista, Cara and Michaella, as well as her 20 great-grandchildren and the thirteen other members of her extended family. A family service will be held at 3 P.M. on Saturday, March 7th at the chapel of the Ave Maria Convalescent Hospital in Monterey. She will be interred with her husband, Tom, and his parents, (Col.) William G. and Mary Logan Mair Muller, at the National Cemetery at the Presidio of San Francisco, California. The family has deep gratitude for the loving care that Mary received at Ave Maria and the many members of the staff that supported Mary over the past three years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests consideration of a contribution to Ave Maria Convalescent Hospital, 1249 Josselyn Canyon Rd., Monterey, CA 93940.
