Charles K. Felder, a native of Globe, Arizona and three-year resident of Forest Hill Manor, passed away in Pacific Grove on July 22. He celebrated his 100th birthday a few months ago with family and friends. A graduate of the University of Arizona, Tucson, he retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Lt. Colonel after 23 years of service.
Charles began his military career as a U.S. Army Cavalry officer before transferring to the U.S. Army Air Corps. During WWII
, he served his nation throughout the Pacific theater, in New Guinea, the Philippines, Okinawa and Japan. He completed his military career on the Monterey Peninsula and settled with his family in Carmel. Charles and his wife, Leona, made their home in Carmel for more than 50 years and treasured the many friendships they formed while raising their family in this special community.
Mr. Felder was a member of the Retired Officer's Association and the Air Force Association and was a past member of the Lion's Club. He was an avid tennis player into his late 80s and particularly enjoyed his coffee group which met in Carmel daily for many years. Mr. Felder is survived by his children, Joan (Leonard) Moore of Aptos; Stephen (Tess) Felder of Watsonville; and his grandchildren, Melissa (Michael) Parker, Kyle Felder, Christopher (Eeva) Moore, Jordan (Delphine) Moore; and his great-grandchildren, Mikayla and Zachary Parker. He was preceded in death by Leona, his wife of 66 years, in 2007 and by his brother, Harry B. Felder.
