Captain Edwin Charles Adamson, Jr.

Pebble Beach – Captain Edwin Charles Adamson, Jr., 76, U.S. Navy, Retired, died peacefully at his home on the morning of April 7, 2007. A native of Minneapolis, Minnesota, he was born December 26, 1930. After playing basketball and baseball for Washburn High, Edwin attended Hamlin University and the University of Minnesota. He married Dorris Schaeffer on June 21, 1957 and graduated from UCLA in 1960. Edwin enlisted in the Naval Cadet program in June of 1952. He served as an attack pilot on aircraft carriers from 1955 to 1956. After completing various cruises in Vietnam from 1961 to 1964, he attended the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, from which he received a Master of Computer Science in 1965. From 1966 to 1967, Edwin was stationed at the Pentagon, and, in 1968, he became the squadron leader of VA155 at the Lemoore (CA) Naval Air Station. He was Air Boss of the USS Hancock in 1973, attended the War College in Newport, RI and then was head of the Computer Science Department at the Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD in 1974, where he was promoted to Captain. Edwin later served as Commander of the Computer Science Center for the 6th Fleet, Coronado, CA. After retiring with honors in 1978, Edwin moved to Pebble Beach and renewed his interest in watercolor painting, joining the Carmel Art Association in 1986.
Edwin is survived by his wife, Dorris; his daughter, Jennifer, and his sister, Jane Paul.
