Francis Edward Mandeville
September 25, 1927 ~ October 3, 2012
MONTEREY - Frank was born on the family farm in Jacksonville, IL, the seventh of Tom and Irene Mandeville's ten children. He graduated from Routt High School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Philosophy from Maryknoll College. He earned his officer's commission at the Defense Language Institute where he studied Russian. Proudly patriotic, Frank served his country as a U.S. Air Force
Major, and completed two tours of duty in Vietnam. A devout Catholic and excellent basso profundo, he joined the San Carlos choir where he met Monterey girl, Christine Vilar. They married in 1954 and spent the next 23 years raising a family at various postings around the U.S. Upon retirement in 1977, he brought his family back to Monterey to live permanently.
He loved to laugh, always championed the underdog and was fair in everything he did. His compassion inspired him to do good works privately and his curiosity was intellectual, spiritual and personal.
A natural teacher, he took great joy in encouraging his children and grandchildren to explore their potential and pursue their dreams.
He deeply loved and cherished his beautiful wife, Christine and devoted his life to her happiness.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Christine; daughter, Francine and son-in-law, Marc; grandsons, Marc and Michael; daughter, Diane and granddaughters, Julia and Claire; daughter, Michele and son-in-law, Phil and grandsons, Brian and Nathan; daughter, Stephanie and son-in-law, Ruben and grandtwins, Isabella and Vicente; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joanne and Richard Davison and nieces, Melissa and Jessica; and his sisters, Aggie and Helen and brother, Jim.
