SALINAS, CA – James "Jim" Arthur Watts, Jr., 74, passed away on December 19, 2013. Jim was born on August 17, 1939 in Buffalo, New York to James and Lucy Watts. Upon his graduation from high school, he joined the U.S. Navy
and spent most of his four years aboard the USS Ticonderoga, traveling all over the world. Upon nearing the end of his service career, he was stationed at the Naval Air Base at the Monterey Peninsula Airport.
He met his wife, Kay Milazzo in 1951; they were married for 52 years. Jim graduated from the Monterey Peninsula College in 1969, with an Associate in Arts degree and also from Golden Gate University in 1975, with a Bachelor's degree in Administration of Justice. In 1964, Jim joined the Pacific Grove Police Department, and was appointed as the Acting Chief in 1993. He had the honor of attending the FBI National Academy. Jim retired as Chief of Police in 1997 and spent the next two years traveling around the United States and Canada in his motor home with Kay and their dog, Jojo by his side.
Jim belonged to the Salinas Elks Club
and was a member of the Pacific Grove-New Monterey Lion's Club, where he served as President. Jim was also a member of the Monterey County Peace Officer's Association, serving as President for two years.
Besides Kay, Jim leaves behind his two sons, Marc and Chris, along with five grandchildren; Steven, Michael, Merrisa, Christopher and Serena.
A Celebration of Jim's Life will be held on Friday, December 27, 2013 at 2:00pm at the San Carlos Cemetery Chapel located at 792 Fremont St. in Monterey, CA 93940. Arrangements are entrusted to the Healey Mortuary & Crematory.www.healeymortuary.com
