Joyce Evelyn Bruner(1937 - 2014)

PEBBLE?BEACH, CA – Our beloved mother, wife and best friend passed away peacefully at 6:20am on May 29, 2014. She was a Christmas Eve bundle of "Joy" for her parents, Joe and Alyce Weber of Los Angeles, CA. The family later moved to Long Beach, CA where she met and married Charles Bruner. They adopted Scott Charles Bruner at the ripe old age of three days while living in La Palma, CA. Later they moved to Palos Verdes, CA and in 1980 to Pebble Beach. Joyce was active in Carmel River School PTA, Teacher's Aide, Cub and Boy Scouts, League of Women Voters, a Charter Member of The Peninsula Club and often referring to her "Bridge Buddies" in glowing terms. Joyce had a passion for exploring foreign lands. She and her husband were fortunate enough to visit approximately 28 countries (some 2-3 times) on five continents. Often offering her, "Have Passport, Will Travel".
Joyce battled cancer for five-plus years, enduring two serious surgeries, two radiation sessions, numerous chemotherapy treatments. Through it all, she typically had a smile and warm greeting for those administering treatment. A stop at Tarpy's Roadhouse before or after chemo was mandatory. After two cancellations as a result of medical treatment, she made her "Bucket List" final trip to New Zealand, Tasmania and Australia in March 2013.
We wish to express sincere appreciation to Nancy Rubin, her always caring Oncologist; her extended family at Pacific Cancer Care who made her trauma bearable; to Brad Tamler and the always dedicated staff of CHOMP also and the nurses and support staff of CHOMP. Hospice exceeded anything we would have hoped for.
Joyce is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Charles; son, Scott; brother, Craig (Vickie); nieces, Kelly (Chad) and Kristi (Kevin).
A celebration of Joyce's life will take place at The Church in the Forest, Stevenson School, 3152 Forest Lake Rd., Pebble Beach at 1:00pm on Saturday, June 28, 2014.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to CHOMP Hospice, 2 Upper Ragsdale Dr., Professional Center, Suite D 210, Monterey, CA 93940. To sign her online guest book, view a video of her life and leave condolences for the family, please visit:
