Matthew Alan Pfeiffer
1989 ~ 2013
Hawaii – In loving memory of our dear son, husband, father and brother, Matthew Alan Pfeiffer. Matthew was born June 13, 1989 and died June 7, 2013. He is survived by his loving wife, Vanessa Pfeiffer; son, Alexander Pfeiffer (13 months old); siblings, Kayla, Jonathan, Jebediah and Charles as well as his father, David and mother, Nancy.
Matthew accomplished so much during the short time he was with us. He graduated from Carmel High in 2008 where he met the love of his life, Vanessa Welling ~ they were high school sweethearts. It wasn't long after they both graduated from high school that they got married. Finding and marrying your soul mate at such a young age is a wonderful accomplishment. Shortly after they were married, Matthew joined the Army
. The military seemed to suit him well. It was easy for him to promote in rank, receive multiple awards, as LTC Michael S. Titus said, "I didn't know Matthew well; he arrived to our unit on May 9, just a little over one month ago. But what I have learned of Matthew in that short time is this… He loved his family; he absolutely adored his wife, Vanessa and cherished his little boy, Alex. He had a zest for life and he lived it to the fullest as evidenced by his ever present and infectious smile. It seems to me he had his priorities in the right place. Family first – a love of country , a close second, a hard working, never quit attitude and finally an always pleasant and happy demeanor.
"In SPC Pfeiffer, we see a shining example of what we all should strive to be. And that is what we should focus on – what we should remember. What may be SPC Pfeiffer's most precious and lasting gift to us all. He showed us how we should live – where our priorities should be. You see, Matthew made the most of every breath he took and although they were far too few, he was able to accomplish much in his 23 years on this earth by setting an example for all of us.
"So, we can honor SPC Pfeiffer in two ways… First… have faith. Trust that God has a plan. In our earthly form, we may never know what that plan is, but we must keep the faith that He has one and it is good. Second, emulate SPC Pfeiffer in your lives. Live every day to the fullest. Love your family, love your country, work hard – and just smile!"
While in Germany, God blessed Matthew and Vanessa with a baby boy, Alexander James, the splitting image of Matt. After serving in Germany for three years, Matthew was assigned to the Schofield Barracks in Oahu, Hawaii. On June 6, 2013 Matthew suffered a massive aneurysm to the brain and was pronounced dead on June 7, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Tripler Military Hospital in Honolulu. Shortly before Matthew passed away, he learned of another blessing, Vanessa is pregnant with a second child. Matthew was a loving son, a caring brother, an amazing husband and a dedicated father. He was also admired by his peers, many people looked up to him and he was the kind of person to never leave his loved ones behind.
