Pacific Grove - Ray Aiello, a native of Monterey, passed away at his home on June 17. He grew up on Larkin Street, part of Monterey's "Spaghetti Hill" and always said it was the greatest place to be a child. A graduate of Junipero High School, he worked at local grocery stores including Top Hat and Purity Markets before retiring from Grove Market in a career that spanned over 30 years.
Ray was a very active member of St. Angela Merici Parish in Pacific Grove. He was also a member of the Italian Catholic Federation in Monterey, the UFCW Retirees Club and the Compari Club. His favorite form of exercise was walking all over Pacific Grove. Ray particularly enjoyed following his grandson's baseball activities and playing with his buddy, Cowboy, the dog.
Ray is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 52 years, Jill; his daughters, Christine Aiello of Marina and Kathy (Roy Tilly) Aiello of Seaside; his beloved grandson, J.T.; his siblings, Ann Russo and Frances (Mel) Albert of Monterey and Carmela Lucido of Salinas, Joe (Francine) of Sacramento, Vince (Donna) of Redwood City and Gus of Monterey; his sister-in-law, Marlene and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother, Nino; his brothers-in-law, Mickey Russo and Tom Lucido; and his sister-in-law, Anna Marie.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Angela Merici Church on Thursday, July 7 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to St. Angela Merici Church, 146 - 8th St., Pacific Grove, CA 93950.
