Monterey - Salvatore Cardinale, a native of Marettimo, Sicily, passed away due to injuries received in a traffic accident. A 65-year resident of Monterey, Sal began his career as a commercial fisherman in Sicily at the age of 13. Immigrating to Monterey, he fished the waters of Monterey Bay, Bristol Bay and Alaska before retiring after over 60 years.
Sal was a member of the Italian Catholic Federation, the Sons of Italy and the Monterey Elks Lodge

Sal is survived by his children, Maria and Alfonso Martorella of Prunedale and Joselyn Cardinale of Seaside; his brother, Jack (Gilda) Cardinale of San Francisco; his sister-in-law, Catherine Cardinale of Carmel Valley; his grandchildren, John, Sarah, Gina, Alfonso, Jr., Mark, Devin and Christian; his great-granddaughters, Kaylee and Alivia; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sarah, in 2006 and his brother, Joe Cardinale.
