SEASIDE – Theodore F. Gill passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Friday, February 21, 2014; he was 91 years old.
Known by his friends as "Ted" or "Gill", he was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 19, 1922 to Theodore F. Gill, Sr. and Jessie Pride Gill. He had older twin sisters, Harriet and Virginia (both deceased), and a younger brother, Jack.
At age 18, Ted enlisted in the U.S. Army
, beginning a 26-year military career and was a veteran of three wars, WWII
, Korea, and Vietnam. While stationed in Japan, he met and married his beloved wife of 57 years, Mitsuko, who preceded him in death in 2010. He retired from the Army in 1967 as an E8 MSgt and, along with his wife and three children, made Seaside his home for 40 years.
Ted enjoyed watching sports with the men in his family and his dog, Cookie. His favorite teams were, of course, the 49ers and the Giants. He loved playing Bingo, Lotto, and Scratchers. He was often a winner and considered to be a very lucky Grandpa by his grandchildren.
He is survived by his son, Edward (Sharon) Gill; daughters, Janet (Cliff) Sawyer and Christine (Edward) Nakao; and seven grandchildren: Michael, Brian, Nicole, Janine, Stephanie, Ryan, and Nathan.
A memorial service will be held at the Seaside Funeral Home at Mission Memorial Park, 1915 Ord Grove Avenue, Seaside, CA 93955 at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 1, 2014.
