George A. Becker Obituary
MONTEREY – Dr. George A. Becker 84, of Monterey passed away Saturday, November 9, 2013 at his home in the Cottages of Carmel.
George was born to Henry W. Becker a Sanger grape rancher and WWI Veteran, and Emma Richter a devoted wife and mother from Fresno, CA. George practiced orthodontics from August, 1960-April 1995 in Sacramento, CA, and has been a resident of Monterey, CA since 1979. George loved the practice of orthodontics tremendously and devoted the majority of his life to serving others and improving their quality of life. George was listed in the Who's Who in California and Who's Who in the West in the early 1970's, was a life member of the Sacramento District Dental Society, California Dental Association, American Dental Association, American Association of Orthodontics, Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontics and California Society of Orthodontics. He was also a standing member of the University of California Alumni, University of California Dental Alumni, Carmel Foundation, and the Thunderbird Senior Singles.
George served in the US Coast Guard from December 1950-December 1953. George's hobby was boating. He spent many hours fishing, taking the kids water skiing in their younger years and sailing the Pacific Ocean from Monterey, San Francisco, Hawaii and Mexico. His favorite past times were: hiking with the Thunderbirds, sailing on the Monterey Bay with friends and family, and participation in the activities of the Monterey Peninsula Yacht Club.
George was married from 1957-1980 to Beverlee R. Becker of Sacramento, CA and had four children, Steve R. Becker, Georgianna (Gigi) I. Becker Weiner, Bruce A. Becker, and Joan (Joanie) Becker Johnson. He is survived by son, Steve Becker of Salinas, CA; daughter, Joanie Johnson and husband Mike of Stafford, Virginia; grandchildren Michael, Jessica, Annalee, Jennylynn and Georgia; sister Elizabeth (Betty) Springer of Kenwood, CA; sister-in-law Erma Becker of Fresno, CA; and girlfriend Emilee (Dolly) Koontz of Monterey, CA.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00a.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Community Church of the Monterey Peninsula 4590 Carmel Valley Rd, Carmel, CA. 93923 followed by a reception at The Cottages of Carmel 26245 Carmel Rancho Blvd. Carmel, CA 93923. In lieu of flowers, George requested expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Jesuit High School 1200 Jacob Ln. Carmichael, CA 95608.
