Howard W. Schutz Obituary
CARMEL, CA – Howard William Schutz, 93 years old, passed away in his beloved home of Carmel on February 25, 2014. Howard is survived by daughter, Kathryn Schutz of Omaha, Nebraska and sons, Evan Schutz and William Schutz of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; son, David Schutz of Moore, Oklahoma; and niece, Jane Eversole of Castro Valley, California; along with three grandsons and a granddaughter, and five great grandchildren.
Howard was born on January 15, 1921, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of Dr. Julius and Mrs. Grace Hook Schutz. Howard would attend South Division High School in Milwaukee, graduating as valedictorian of South Division High of 1938. He would continue his education at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, Wisconsin, graduating in 1943 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Metallurgical Engineering.
Upon graduation, Howard would move to his first professional job in Monaca, Pennsylvania, as a plant engineer at a zinc smelter. In his off-hours, he attended a local Presbyterian church where he would meet a young war widow, Elizabeth Webber. The two would be married in April, 1945. The marriage produced four children in Pennsylvania and in Missouri, and the couple would continue on to Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
Howard would move to Idaho Falls, Idaho in 1969. There in Idaho, he became a member of a local Parents Without Partners group. In January, 1978, Howard would marry Noma Cesannah. The couple would initially make their home in Idaho Falls until Howard's retirement in 1982, when they moved to Carmel to stay. Noma Schutz would precede him in death by several years. Howard loved his association with the Carmel Foundation and described his peninsular home as "the only place in my life that I get to live in, rather than have to live in."
Funeral Services will be Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 12:00 Noon at Mission Memorial Park and Seaside Funeral Home Chapel, 1915 Ord Grove Avenue. Burial will follow. Please visit www.seasidefunerals.com to offer condolences.
