Myrtle Alberta (Escobar) Bengard Obituary
MONTEREY, CA – Myrtle Alberta (Escobar) Bengard, aka "Crystal", passed away peacefully at home after over 15 years of struggle with Ataxia.
Daughter of Mary Delores (Botelho) Hill of San Juan Bautista and Joseph Escobar, and beloved stepdaughter of Oliver L. Hill of Marshall, Missouri, she was born in Hollister, CA, and spent much of her time in San Juan Bautista with her grandparents, John and Mary (Freitas) Botelho, and her beloved uncle and godfather, Manuel Escobar. She married her high school sweetheart, William Claire Bengard and followed his PG&E career to Pacific Grove, Monterey, Paso Robles and back to Hollister.
She was very active and loved to dance to the song "Proud Mary" (Creedence Clearwater), snow ski at Badger Pass and water ski in Bass Lake. She loved the color purple, owls and the family cabin at Bass Lake. If there is a Macy's in Heaven, she will be first in line!
She is survived by her brother, Vernon Escobar; sister, Cynthia (Escobar) Swarthout; children, Timothy, Gail, Karen and Lynn and grandchildren, Rachel Bengard-Frison, Matthew Bengard, Tyson Curtis, Taylor and Bailey Kropp and great-grandchildren, McKenna and Ian Frison and Isaac Prudhomme-Bengard.
A celebration of her life will be held at noon Saturday, September 6, 2014 at the VFW Hall, 58 Monterey St., San Juan Bautista, followed by Mass at the Mission at 5:00 p.m. Donations to the National Ataxia Foundation are requested in lieu of flowers.
