Richard B. Hammond Obituary
CARMEL – Twenty-six year resident, Richard B. Hammond, died on Thursday, September 19, 2013, following a brief illness. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Susan of Bakersfield; son, William and daughter-in-law, Wendi of Salinas; two grandchildren, Weston and Carli; and his sister, Jean Dillingham of June Lake; as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert of La Jolla.
Richard B. "Dick" Hammond was born in Buffalo, NY to Elmer and Evelyn Hammond. After attending UCLA and graduating from UC Davis, Dick joined the United States Marine Corps. He was honorably discharged as a Captain.
Dick enjoyed duck hunting, fly fishing, tennis, golf and dominoes as well as cooking Huevos Rancheros for his friends. He always looked forward to "lightening up" the conversation at the weekly men's breakfast and monthly lunch group. He felt at home on the water and enjoyed many years of boating with his friends.
Dick retired to Carmel with his wife, Barbara. They were married for 58 years. After retiring to Carmel, he became a friendly, encouraging volunteer in financial matters for local charities. Richard will be missed by many: friends, employees from the many local clubs and businesses and especially his family.
We will all remember his insight, advice and his concern for others, his jokes, his smile and twinkling blue eyes.
He was a gentleman to the very end.
