MONTEREY, CA – Rueben Rose was born July 31, 1926 in Los Angeles, CA to parents, Florence Eliza Burgess and James Ethelbert Rose of Kingston, Jamaica. He died March 23, 2014.|
His siblings were his brother, the late Alphonso Rose of Inglewood, CA; sister, Gladyce Wall of Carson, CA and sister-in-law, Bebbo Rose of Inglewood. He was married to the late Luise Maria Rose of Ludwigshafen, Germany.
Rueben graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in February of 1945. He entered the military at the tail end of World War II in 1945 and was part of the Berlin Airlift in the transportation core and also served in the Korean campaign. He was stationed in West Germany for 12 of his 22 years of military service. After retiring from the military in 1968, he worked in civil service at Fort Ord, CA at CDEC from 1968-1975.
He received an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Monterey Peninsula College in 1977. He also worked at the Naval Post Graduate School as a Military Police Officer from 1975-1990, where he received two Certificates of Recognition for an Outstanding Performance Rating.
His hobbies included watching sports, the news, court shows and cowboy movies on TV. He also enjoyed reading the daily newspaper and magazines.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his children: daughter, Elvira Barrows of Worcester, MA; son, Stefan R. Rose of Marina, CA; daughter-in-law, Taumafaalofi (Mafa) Auelua-Rose of Marina; daughter, Yvonne L. Rose-Jackson of Los Angeles, CA; and son-in-law, Byron Jackson of Los Angeles. He had eight grandchildren: the late Jimmy Barrows, Milan, Stefan Rueben Jr. (RJ), Marlena, Whitney, Quintin, Eve and Sasha and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
A Viewing will be held Thursday, March 27, 2014 from 5:00-8:00pm and Services are Friday, March 28 at 10:30am, both at Mission Mortuary, 450 Camino El Estero in Monterey.
