Thomas F. "'Tom'" Christian, Sr. Obituary
PACIFIC?GROVE, CA – Thomas "Tom" F. Christian, Sr., 72, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Wednesday, June 18, 2014. He was born January 14, 1942 to Maurice and Elizabeth Christian in Brooklyn, New York. On June 20, 1960, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Fort Ord, California. On November 4, 1961, he married Miss Louise Marie Torres of Pacific Grove.
Tom served his country admirably in the U.S. Army for six years in various capacities as well as 40 years in the U.S. Navy at the Naval Post Graduate School. Prior to serving in the military, Tom graduated from Jamaica High School, in (Jamaica) Long Island, New York. Later in life, he attended Monterey Peninsula College and earned an Associate of Arts Degree. Shortly after, he earned his Industrial Machine and Related Technologies Service Credentials and was hired by Monterey Peninsula College as an Instructor of Electronics in the Applied Technology Department. He had a passion for airplanes, guns, and motorcycles. To that end, he held a private pilot's license, received military commendations for his marksmanship, and enjoyed over 50 years of experience riding motorcycles. Tom also had a natural affinity and love for music and dance. From an early age he exercised his musical talent as an avid member of his high school's chorus group. During that same period Tom was a regular at the then highly popular American Band Dance Halls where he mastered a variety of dances of his time. However, throughout his life he always said his best dance years were spent dancing with his lovely wife and daughter. In recent years you could enjoy Tom's melodic and enthusiastic voice at the Mission Ranch in Carmel. While Tom worked and played hard, what he enjoyed most was spending quality time with his wife, family and friends. Tom was an amazing individual known as the "go to guy" always there to help friends and family with projects or whatever else they needed him for.
Tom is survived by Louise, his beloved wife of 53 years; son, Thomas Michael Christian; daughter, Christine Marie Christian-Ramos; grandson, Skyler Ryan Ramos; and granddaughter, Tiffany Marie Stehlik. Tom was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all.
Funeral services for Tom will be held at St. Angela Merici Catholic Church on Thursday, June 26, 2014, at 2:00 PM in Pacific Grove, California. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make a donation to the Cancer Research Institute University of California San Francisco.
