Tondre Dell Alarid Obituary
SOLEDAD, CA – Tondre Alarid was born on June 4, 1925 to Dell and Anna Tondre Alarid. He and his two sisters, Emilie and Ruthie grew up in Salinas. They had a very special sibling bond of love and support that began in their youth and continued until his passing.
As a young boy, Tondre served as an altar boy at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and his Catholic faith was deeply important to him.
He attended Sacred Heart Grammar School and graduated from Salinas High School in 1943. After graduation Tondre enlisted in the Navy. He served four years in the Navy and was stationed in Ohio. After his discharge from the military, he attended UC Davis and graduated in 1949 with a BS degree in Crop Science.
Tondre returned to the Salinas Valley and his love of farming began. He also met the love of his life, Yvonne Swenson. They had more than 60 wonderful years together. Together they had six children: David, Anne, Kathleen, Joe, Mary and Roberta.
Following his dream of farming, Tondre and Yvonne purchased their River Road Ranch in 1960. Here, he and Yvonne raised their family. It was here on River Road that he shared his love of farming with his son Joe. Together they farmed for more than 30 years. The farm began as a bean field, then lettuce fields and today, grape fields. Tondre was especially proud of his grape fields that he and Joe nurtured. Tondre was always willing to share a bottle of his Pinot Noir.
Tondre and Yvonne loved to travel across the United States and abroad. New friends were met and lifelong friendships were made.
Tondre had eight grandchildren of whom he was very proud. He was always at Bess's dance recitals and all of their sporting events. He was especially proud to attend their high school and college graduations.
With a love for the outdoors he was an avid fisherman and duck hunter. He enjoyed his fishing trips with friends and teaching his grandchildren how to fish. He especially enjoyed fishing trips to Canada and Alaska. It was in Canada that Bess caught her first Rainbow Trout, to his delight. He also enjoyed duck hunting in Los Banos. He took his grandsons duck hunting every opportunity he had and took great pride hunting alongside them.
Tondre's special love, support and guidance, given so freely to his family and friends will never be forgotten. They are forever grateful for his love and he will live in their hearts forever. He will never be forgotten.
Tondre is survived by his family: Anne Trebino, Kathleen and Denny Burke, Joe and Penny Alarid, Mary and Joe Pezzini; his grandchildren: Matt, Nick and Michael Trebino, Jack Burke, David and Bess Pezzini, Joey and Brian Alarid; his sisters, Emilie McDonald and Ruthie Johnson and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne in September 2013; his infant children, David and Roberta; and his parents, Dell and Anna Alarid.
