William Henry Hunter Obituary
SEASIDE, CA – Our dear grandfather, William Henry Hunter, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 11:20pm, surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 28, 1931 in Hermanie, Pennsylvania. His parents, John and Rewbeania, had only one other child together; her name is now Eileen King and she resides in West Newton, Pennsylvania.
Once his parents separated he moved in with his grandparents whose names were Henry and Elisabeth Tepke. That was about the time he went to Sewickley Township High School where he loved to play basketball, baseball, and football. He graduated in 1949 from Sewickley Township, and occasionally made it back for reunions.
Shortly after he graduated, he joined the Army and served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He played many sports while in the Army but his favorite was baseball and he won many awards playing with the 4th Brigade. When stationed in Okinawa he met a young lady named Fuji. They had a son, Billie Hunter and he now resides in Seaside, CA.
He moved to Fort Ord due to being stationed here and lived here 51 years. He worked over 40 years at Robert Louis Stevenson School where he was the Athletic Equipment Director. His son, Billie, married Katherine Dieckneite who already had two children, Cecilia and Aaron Freitas. His first grandson was born in 1985, William Taro Hunter and he resides in Monterey, CA. One year later his first granddaughter, Lisa Marie Hunter, was born; she lives in Seaside. In 2007, his wife, Fuji, passed away due to lung cancer. Later that year he remarried Aiko Delaney.
Before passing away he had been at Forest Hill Manor nursing home in Pacific Grove. He suffered a fracture in his spinal cord and later had colon complications.
William is survived by his many friends who loved him; his family back in Pennsylvania; his wife, Aiko; his son, Billie; grandsons, William Taro Hunter and Aaron Freitas; his granddaughters, Lisa Hunter and Cecilia Freitas; his great grandchildren, William Henry Hunter II, Daniel Washington, Amaya Washington, Kai Freitas, Brandon Galloway, and Justin Galloway.
His service is Monday, January 27, 2014 at Mission Memorial Park & Seaside Funeral Home, 1015 Ord Grove Ave. in Seaside at 12:00 noon.
