Elizabeth (Betty) Hansen Obituary
Elizabeth (Betty) Hansen
September 15, 1924 ~ March 4, 2011

Monterey - Elizabeth (Betty) Hansen died March 4, 2011 at age 86. Betty lived an active life. During World War II, she was among the first young women hired at Hamilton Air Force Base. Her early years as a young farm wife and mother found her on a turkey ranch in the San Joaquin Valley, milking Bossy the cow, churning milk into butter, canning food and caring for her six children. The family moved to Monterey in 1959, where Betty's home became everyone's favorite place. Summers were spent in Big Sur at Burley's campground. And for 30 years, Betty provided daycare locally. Her life was one of joy and sorrow. Her sons returned safely home from the Viet Nam war, and in 1979, she mourned the deaths of her daughter, Kim and husband, Emil. Betty knitted and tended her garden. She loved to walk, read mystery novels and watch over the lives of her children.
Betty was a loving, caring and giving person and will be thought of often and missed much.
Betty is survived by daughter, Margaret Engel (Robin); son, Gregory (Susie); son, Christian (Jerri); daughter, Penny Partch (Peter); daughter, Rebecca Quedou; nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
A private memorial will be in the spring. Donations may be made towards stroke research. Please visit www.baysidecommunitymortuary.com to sign the online guestbook and leave condolences for the family.
