MADERA, CA - George departed this life to join our Father in Heaven on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at his home. He was born in Gadsden, AL on October 23, 1935 to the late Luther and Lessie Washington. He moved to California from Saraland, AL at the age of 16. At the age of 19 George enlisted in the Army where he served over 20 years. His military honors include Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and National Defense Service Medal. George served his country proudly and was often excited to speak of his military career.

George was an active member of the V.F.W. Hall Post #8679 for many years in Seaside until moving to Madera in 2005. George lived in Seaside from 1964 to 2005.

He was a devoted and loving husband and father. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 34 years, Doo Sun (Kay) Washington of Madera; three loving daughters: Delores Washington of Mobile, AL, Faye Lewis of Mobile and Ramonita Jones of Long Beach, CA. He also leaves one loving son, Marcus Washington and his wife, Tami of Hayward, CA; one devoted brother, Alonzo Washington of Saraland; and niece, Pamela Bowden. He was the grandfather of 10, great-grandfather of 17 and great-great-grandfather of one. George also had a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 from 10:00am to 1:00pm with funeral services beginning at 1:00pm at Jay Chapel in Madera. Interment will follow at Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera.
