SALINAS, CA – Harry, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2014 at the age of 88. He was born in Los Angeles, CA, the eldest of four siblings.
Harry "Pete" proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1970. He saw action in three wars:
, Korea, and Vietnam, earning several citations and medals including the
, Croix de Guerre, and the Silver Star Medal for gallantry in action, our nation's third highest military decoration for valor. After retiring from the Army, Pete worked for the Rural Health Project in King City, affiliated with the Monterey Bay Medical Society, as their financial officer from 1970 to 1982.
Pete was an amateur fisherman, fishing off the pier at Monterey and in the bay itself by boat. He was an avid reader, especially of politics, history, and current events and was never one to shy away from an opinion on the news of the day.
He is survived and will be missed by Claudia Peterson, his wife of 66 years; children, Linda Puchrik, Victoria (Robert) Lo Franco, James Peterson; grandchildren, Brent Puchrik, April (Aaron) Patch, Angelina and Dominic Lo Franco, Tristan Peterson; great grandchildren, Ashley Puchrik, Ryley and twins, Maya and Isa Patch; great-great grandson, Jace Puchrik-Bickle; his sister, Velma Burnell; sister-in-law, Francoise Szeeman of Paris; many nieces and nephews of Paris, Switzerland, and America, and a few old friends from his military and civilian life.
The family wishes to thank his physicians and caregivers at home, Miriam Vega, the Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital, and Pacific Coast Nursing Home.
Cremation has taken place. Arrangements are entrusted to the Healey Mortuary & Crematory,
