Harry "Mac" McDonald Obituary
On November 15, 2013, Harry "Mac" McDonald passed from this world, surrounded by family. He was a Pacific Grove High School graduate and obtained a Special Secondary Vocational Class Credential from the University of California, Berkeley. Mac was an advocate of vocational-tech education, teaching one to work with their hands and minds. He was a teacher and later became the Dean of the Vo-Tech Department along with the Agricultural and Nursing Departments at Hartnell College. He grew up in Pacific Grove and lived his life in Monterey County. He was active with the Boy Scouts and Sea Scouts, rising to the rank of Eagle Scout, and later was an adult leader. He served honorably in World War II, returning to the Salinas Valley and a career in teaching. His passion was snow skiing. He was a member of the National Ski Patrol for 25 years. He spent his retirement years skiing at Dodge Ridge and working on the lifts during the off-season.
Mac leaves Emilie, his beloved wife of 63 years; his son, Henry (Kathy); four grandchildren, Paul (Nancy), Robert (Teresa), Michael (Melissa), and Stephen (Lauren); eight great-grandchildren, Max, Derek, Maria, Janine, Trevor, Sophia, Kinley, and Graham; sister-in-law, Ruth Johnson; brother-in-law, Tondre Alarid; and many nieces and nephews.
All who had the pleasure of knowing him will miss Mac.
A special thanks to Dr. Robert Patton, Dr. Shiffman, Nancy Burgonio, Joanne Burgonio, LaToya Calder, and all the Hospice angels who helped Mac through this time.
