Irena Danuta Palucki February 16, 1925 ~ November 2, 2012 CARMEL VALLEY - Irena Danuta Palucki of Hacienda Carmel, died on November 2, 2012. Born February 16, 1925 in Brzesc, Poland, she had lived on the Monterey Peninsula since 1956. Irena attended college in Newton, England and pre-med in Derby, England. During the Soviet and German occupation of Poland she joined the underground Polish Home Army (AK) and fought in the Warsaw Uprising (August 1- October 3, 1944). After capitulation she was deported as a prisoner of war to Stalag XI B and later to Stalag VI C. Upon liberation in April 1945, she joined the WAAF and was assigned to an Air Force base in England. Irena worked at NPS as a supervisory voucher examiner and at the DLI as a foreign language instructor. She retired from the Civil Service after 25 years but continued to work for the AT&T Language Line as a Polish interpreter until 2003. She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Holmquist (Gary); her grandson, Stephen King (Kari); her granddaughter, Katina Parco (Buddy) and great-granddaughters, Aspyn and Madyn King. Per Irena's request, there will be no memorial services. Her ashes, with only her immediate family present, will be scattered in the Pacific Ocean.
