Mary Alice Amaral Obituary
Seaside – Mary A. Amaral, a native of Ripon, California, passed away on August 29 surrounded by her loved ones. Born to Mary and Francisco Machado, she moved to Seaside with her family in 1950 where she met the love of her life, Joe. They married in 1955 and their daughter, AnnaMarie was born in 1956. Together, Mary and Joe worked very hard to make a wonderful life for their family.
Mary is remembered as an excellent cook and sharp businesswoman. She was unselfish and generous, kind and patient. She was truly the heart of her family and "the BEST mother in the world." Especially proud of her Portuguese heritage, Mary was very involved in Portuguese organizations from her teen years and into adulthood. She was past president of the FDES and Our Lady of Fatima societies and a long-time member of St. Angela Merici Catholic Church. A graduate of Monterey High School, Mary's passion was cooking and she could talk about it for hours with anyone who shared an interest in good food.
Mary had the biggest, kindest heart and was always helping anyone in need without expecting anything in return. She did not like gossip and always served as a peacemaker. Mary was the most honest and loyal person one could ever meet and she saw the best in everyone. Mary's passing leaves a tremendous void in her family's lives. Holidays will never be the same again. She made every day special. What a tremendous woman she was and, ever so humble.
In addition to Joe, her husband of 58 years, and her daughter, AnnaMarie, who loved her so very much, she is survived by her son-in-law, Oldemiro M. Silva whom she always loved and appreciated as her "one and only son" who was always there when he was most needed; her grandson, Rafael Amaral Silva, who was the apple of her eye; her brother, George Machado; her uncle, Daniel Garcia, as well as many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, godchildren, extended family and friends. Mary was preceded in death by her brothers, Albert and Frank Machado. She also leaves her four-legged babies, Pepe, Ginger and Bernard and her beloved grand-dogs.
Her family is eternally grateful to all who provided care to their beloved Mary during her illness.
Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will take place this Saturday, September 7 at 10:00 AM at St. Angela Merici followed by entombment at San Carlos Catholic Cemetery. Please visit to sign Mary's guest book and leave messages for her family.
