Sara Moore Obituary

There are people who live life, and there are people who live to change lives. Sara Rivkeh Moore changed the life of everyone she met. With her sudden passing Friday, November 15, 2013 hearts are broken.
Sara was born to Ward and Raylyn Moore in Pickett State Park, Tennessee, while her parents were driving from Arkansas to New York City, where they lived for a short time before returning to California. Sara grew up in the family home on Park Street in Pacific Grove, where one of her sons was born and two of them still live.
Sara graduated from Pacific Grove High School in 1980 and had recently earned her BA in Psychology from California State University, Monterey Bay. She was working toward her Masters in Social Work when she died.
At 48, Sara had just celebrated 14 years of sobriety. She used her experience with addiction to help save lives, guiding countless women and men to recovery. Sara was a true pillar of the community – an amazing and nonjudgmental friend, dancer, singer, wife, mother, counselor, and activist. Her generosity, even when she had little to give, will be long remembered.
Her desire to make a difference in the world was matched only by her musical talent, her enthusiasm for swing dancing, and most of all, her love for her family, including her wife, Christine Moore of Marina; her sons, Klaus, Skylar, and Jody Campbell of Pacific Grove; her sisters, Hannah Moore of Virginia, Jeanne Mileti of Carmel Valley, and Beth Penney of Pacific Grove; her brothers, Ben Moore of Monterey, Sam Moore of Virginia, and John Penney of Pacific Palisades; her former husband, Robert Campbell of Pacific Grove; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by both her parents.
Sara will be sorely missed by all. A celebration of her life will held at a later date.

Beautiful Sara,
How much you've touched my life you will never know. I have just heard of your passing and I am still in shock. Such a warm soul that made her mission to help other's around and get to know people genuinely. I loved your caring heart, your gentle spirit and the way you talked to people in a non-judgmental way. I remember your amazing voice while in Big Sur and how your amazing presence in leadership classes. You will be sorely missed but I know you were a woman of great faith and you will be taken care of. Just know that you have made a HUGE impact in this life.

Sara, You have left behind a legacy not only in spirit but within your boys whom I know by our conversations that you were immensely proud of. If that is all that we can leave behind to live on in our light...we as Mothers have completed and lived our life's dream. Your love and light will be missed but never forgotten. So happy you chanced upon my life. I know you would never sit it out...I know you are dancing with the angels.

We were classmates at CSUMB - the older set, shall we say?! I drew comfort from knowing I wasn't the only older student there. Sara was always smiling and always upbeat. She made an indelible impression on me from the day we met.

Met you at the Krazy Kat Cafe' in 1980, and I knew you were a rare and special spirit. Really treasured our talks back in the day...Didn't know you super well over the years, but always enjoyed seeing you and the boys around town. Jody and my Sasha played at Caledonia many years ago...and I always appreciated your warmth and amazing energy. Fifteen years ago you reached out to me and told me that life did not have to be what it had become. Two years later I came to believe and we have been friends from that day to this. Words can not convey how profoundly you will be missed and how deeply you are loved. Thank you for being the change you wished to see in the world. I love you.

Whoever wrote that obitutary, it is awesome! You describe Sara magnificently. Chrissy, I will never forget when we met in Chicago. I had known Sara for many years before that and you truly lit up her world, you made her so happy. Klaus, Skylar and Jody, your mom never had a bad word to say about you, even in the worst of times. She is so proud of the people you are becoming, my heart aches for all of you. Sara was a confidant, a cheerleader and a wonderful friend. She will live on in my heart.

Thank you all from Sara's oldest sister. To paraphrase Johnny Cash, "Now little sister has done gone home, but I'll rejoin her in a song; we'll be together again up yonder in a little while. "
