Virginia Lucille Wheeler Obituary
SALINAS – Virginia Lucille Wheeler, 83, passed away August 8, 2014. She was born December 3, 1929 in Salinas.
She grew up in Soledad on the family farm where she lived for 39 years. She enjoyed gardening, family gatherings, and spending time at Arroyo Seco. She graduated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing at the University of San Francisco in 1959. After graduation she returned to Soledad to start her nursing career in King City as a Public Health Nurse.
She later transferred to the Salinas office where she met the love of her life, Donald Wheeler. They married in 1972 and started their new life together. Throughout the years Virginia and Donald enjoyed camping and fishing with their grandchildren. These trips were some of the most special times. After she retired she volunteered for Meals on Wheels, was a docent at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and the Steinbeck Center in Salinas. She was a member of Madonna del Sasso Church where she attended for over 44 years.
Virginia had an incredible giving spirit and helped all those in need she came across. She donated to countless organizations such as University of San Francisco School of Nursing, Meals on Wheels and the Food Bank of Monterey County. She was also a longtime supporter of the Soledad Mission Restoration Committee.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Lucy Binsacca; husband, Donald Wheeler; sisters, Marie Rothenberger and Roberta Binsacca.
Virginia is survived by her brother, Richard Binsacca of Soledad, CA; niece, Kathryn Emery of Madera, CA; great-niece, Michelle Urquidez of San Jose; four great-great-nephews, CA; step-daughter, Stephanie Solis of San Juan Bautista; stepson, Robert Wheeler of Nevada; grandchildren, Kirk Allred of Clovis, CA, Derek Allred of Los Banos, CA, and Kendra Delfin of Salinas, Adeline and Katie Wheeler of Nevada; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Sunday, August 17, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m at the Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas, CA 93901. Rosary will be held Sunday, August 17, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. at the Struve and Laporte Chapel. Funeral Mass will take place Monday, August 18, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Madonna del Sasso Church, 320 E. Laurel Dr. Salinas, CA 93906. Burial will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 18200 Damian Way, Salinas, CA 93907.
