July 19, 1926 ~ November 11, 2012

Monterey - Sarah Andrews, 86, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness. Sarah was born in Nokomis, Illinois, the eldest child of Samuel and Elsie Taylor. At an early age her family moved to Huckleberry Hill in New Monterey, and she lived in the same neighborhood for over 70 years. Sarah married Arthur A. Andrews in 1942, and had six children.

During WWII, Sarah worked in the canneries of Monterey; after raising her children she worked at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula as a baker and kitchen aide. After retiring from Community Hospital, she enjoyed bingo, traveling with the Monterey Golden 55 Seniors, and socializing with her friends.

She is survived by her children: daughters, Dianna (Ray) Hattori and Elizabeth Williams; sons: Danny (Carol) Andrews, David Andrews and Jefferey Andrews. She is also survived by grandchildren: Wayne Andrews, Leesa Sanchez, Jordan Andrews, Erika Andrews, Melissa Andrews, Matthew Andrews, Corey Andrews, Ryan Williams, Liana Williams; and two great-grandchildren: Abigail Montez and Julia Meyerott. Also surviving are her sister, Kathy Shaw; sister-in-law, Marge Taylor and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Arthur Andrews, Sr. and eldest son, Arthur (Butch) Andrews, Jr.

We thank Dr. Gary Grant and his staff for their long-time care of our mother, and to the Ave Maria Convalescent Hospital for making her last weeks comfortable. In addition, we give heartfelt gratitude to Leslie Ocal who took loving homecare of our mother for the past three years.
