Leo Durwin Trout Obituary
Seaside – Leo Durwin Trout passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2014 in Monterey following a brief period of failing health.
Leo is survived by his children, daughters, Sydney Lynne Harper (Tom) from Sand City, Sandra Lea Frost from San Jose and son, Ron Leo Trout (Rhonda) from Sonora; and daughter-at-heart, Sharon Hebert-Diemel from La Grange. His surviving siblings include Clyde Thompson of Carmel Valley, Vivian Cleverger of Hemet and Bob Thompson of Chicago.
Leo was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Marcella Trout and the mother of his children, Dorothy Ingram Hebert; his parents, Myrtle and Clyde Thompson as well as his sisters, Dessa Shear and Jean Hilligoss; brother, Joe Thompson; son-in-law, Dwight W. Frost and grandson, Darris Frost.
One of Leo's proudest and most difficult achievements was his service during World War II. Leo served in the 37th Infantry Division, Reconnaissance, in the South Pacific. Leo continued to serve his country until his military retirement in 1963. Leo also served his community as a laboratory technologist at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula when it had only 100 beds. Leo then opened the laboratory for the Thorngate Medical Group.
He loved to travel the American Northwest with his wife, Marcella and little dog, Charlie. He loved to fish and golf and share an afternoon with friends. For 50 years he was a part of his Luxton Street neighborhood and often spoke fondly of his neighbors.
Funeral Services will be held at Mission Memorial Park and Seaside Funeral Home Chapel Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at 2:00pm. Burial will follow with Full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to The SPCA for Monterey County and thank a veteran for their service. Please visit to offer online condolences.
