MONTEREY - Linda McCabe, age 66, died suddenly of a stroke on April 24, 2010. An avid writer and reader, she was born in Hobert, Oklahoma in 1943. She attended high school in Enid Oklahoma and college at Oklahoma State University. As the wife of an Air Force officer she traveled extensively and wrote numerous children's stories based on her experiences, one of which has been optioned by Disney Studios.
Linda was a member of the Interior Design Society and worked as a designer in Denver and Beverly Hills, as well as serving as art director on a trilogy of films based on John Steinbeck short stories.
She moved to the Monterey Peninsula in 2001 to be near her family. She had recently been accepted at Hamline University's Master of Fine Arts Program in Minneapolis, where she intended to earn her MFA in creative writing for children and young adults.
Linda is survived by her twin sister, Terri DeBono of Monterey; her daughter, Cassady Velasco-Evers of Carmel Valley; and three grandchildren.
