Elbert E. Balding, Sr.|
August 1, 1943 ~ May 4, 2011
SEASIDE - Our wonderful Poppa went to Heaven on May 4, 2011. El was born August 1 1943 to Ulla and Evelyn Balding in Monterey, CA. A life-long Seasider, he was proud to be from Seaside and had life-long friendships.
He leaves behind his wife, Peggy, married 48 years;sons, Elbert, Jr., Tim (Melissa) and Brian Costa; sisters, Sharon Kelley and Loretta (Jim) Sanderson. He was also survived by six grandchildren, Rachel Balding, Nick Balding, Chelsea Balding, Haley Balding, Hannah Balding and Tyler Balding; and literally hundreds of cousins, nieces and nephews. El's mother, Evelyn Drake had 13 brothers and sisters and almost all their families are on the Monterey Peninsula.
He was pre-deceased by both parents; brothers, Lyle Short, Jack, Dennis and Kenneth Balding; and sister, Juanita Giacalone.
El had so many friends that he loved. In the late 60s he joined NASCAR and raced famously as "Scalding Balding" at Watsonville and tracks in the San Joaquin Valley. He met so many people at that time, they became life-long friends. El was an avid hunter, enjoyed many trips to Hunter Liggett, the Sierras, etc.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, May 15, 2011 from 1:00-5:00pm at The Sheriff's PossŽ Grounds in Salinas. Private services will be held in late August at the Fukawee Camp. Any local residents attending, please bring a dish to share.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Country Church, 14485 Del Monte Farms Road, Castroville, CA 95012. El loved his church and the church family.
We cannot thank enough Dr. Bradly, Dr. Verlender, Dr. Rubins and staff, Dr. Taolaoui and especially the nursing angels of Terrace West and Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula Oncology Dept.
