Lydia "Lee" Burak Ish|
October 11, 1924 ~ October 31, 2012
CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA - Lydia "Lee" Burak Ish passed peacefully, surrounded by family on October 31, 2012 at the age of 88, after a period of failing health.
Lee was born on October 11, 1924 in Yonkers, New York, to Matthew and Maria Burak. She graduated from Yonkers High School in 1942. After studying retailing at Yonkers High School of Commerce and holding a clerical position at New York University, Lee served in the United States Marine Corps from April 1945 to July 1946 and was honorably discharged as a corporal holding a clerical position in Washington, D.C. She was married to Victor A. Ish of Winters, California on November 15, 1947 in Phoenix, Arizona. They later lived in Denver, Colorado, as well as Sacramento, Monterey, and Auburn, California.
After several years as a school registrar, Lee worked as a Real Estate Agent and Broker for most of her career in Monterey and Carmel, California, and loved to shop in the boutique-laden area. Lee and Vic were members of the First Presbyterian Church of Monterey. Upon retiring in Auburn, California, Lee was active with several friends in the First Congregational Church of Auburn, while retaining her favorite life-long activity of discovering new recipes and cooking - especially for holiday family gatherings.
Lee is survived by her husband of nearly 65 years, Victor Ish of Citrus Heights; son, David Ish and wife, Mary Helen of La Jolla, California; daughter, Carol Belanger and husband, Ron of Rocklin, California; son, Tom Ish and wife, Jennifer of Auburn; and grandchildren, Melanie Belanger, Ryan Belanger, and Melissa Ish. All will greatly miss her elegant, loving humility.
A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church of Auburn, 710 Auburn Ravine Rd., Auburn, CA at 11:00am on Saturday, December 8, 2012. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, please donate to the
in Lee's memory. Comments may be posted at www.legacy.com/obituaries/montereyherald.
